Original Request

Initial search in Scotty reveals we do not own "Red Letters" by Saner, Reg. We do own 4 other titles by the author, and another item by a different author with the same title "red letters", but not the same work we are searching.

A B&T Link search produced zero results for the isbn.

An OCLC search for:

ti: red letters au: saner

produced zero results; as did the derived author/title search "sane, red", & isbn search for "0614064244"

The fact that this isbn is not found anywhere should cause a bit of suspicion about the validity of the requested entry. Rather than stopping here & just keying an entry into Scotty from the ad in hand, further digging should be done.

An OCLC Search for:

au: saner reg

produced 11 items, one of which appears as:

Quarterly review of literature: poetry series IX / edited by T. R. Weiss. Princeton, N.J. : QRL, 1989. [268] p. in various pagings : ports. ; 23 cm. OCLC: 21978968, Holdings: 7

Since the Publisher in the request is Quarterly Review of Literature, and publication date matches the requested item, this entry warrants a deeper look.

7001 Powell, Craig.

Year of publication matches our request. Notice the added authors (700 fields) include Saner, Reg. And the series entry (440 field) "Quarterly review of literature ; vs. 28-29".

An additional search in Scotty for "title: quarterly review of literature" reveals we own:

Quarterly review of literature. Rivera AP2 .Q37
Quarterly review of literature. Poetry Book series. Rivera AP2 .Q3732
Quarterly review of literature. Poetry series. Rivera AP2 .Q371
Quarterly review of literature. Poetry series. Rivera AP2 .Q373

Viewing each of these entries individually reveals that all are ceased serials.

AP2 .Q37 ran 1944-77
AP2 .Q371 ran 1978-1982
AP2 .Q373 ran 1991-1995
AP2 .Q3732 ran 1996-1999

Since we are looking for something published in 1989, none of these titles include our entry, however, it is suspicious that there is a gap in publishing for this title between 1982-1991. A further review of the bibliographic record for AP2 .Q371 reveals the 780 & 785 fields (serial's "continued" title & serial's "continued by" title.) Basically, this means that this series was formerly published under the title:

780 |tQuarterly review of literature|x0033-5819|w(OCoLC)1763252|w(DLC) 45010088.

(which we own under AP2 .Q37); And then changed title again to:

785 |tPoetry series (Princeton, N.J.)|x0748-0865|w(DLC) 84645315.

AP2 .Q371 ceased in 1982 and changed title to Poetry series (dropping the "Quarterly review of literature" portion of the title)

A Scotty search for "title: poetry series" reveals we own:

Poetry Series Princeton N J
     Poetry Series. Rivera AP2 .Q372

(this fits into the call number gap between our previous search entries AP2 .Q371 & AP2 .Q373). A further look at the bibliographic record confirms that this title ran from 1983-1989 filling our previous time gap, and then changed title back to:

785 |tQuarterly review of literature. Poetry series (Princeton, N.J. : 1991)|w(DLC)sn 92028071|w(OCoLC)24156718.

Confirming this is, indeed, the serial we were looking for.

A review of the Checkin record indicates our holdings of:

LIB. HAS	v. 24(1983),26(1986)-28/29(1989).

Since our OCLC record indicates our request is for vol. 28-29 of this series, it appears that we own this volume. However, since the entry is so vastly different from our original request, a phone call to the Rivera Circulation unit to have someone pull the actual volume (or go yourself to check if Circulation or Stacks staff are unable to check for you) and verify that Reg Saner's "Red Letters" work is in this volume before declaring the request a "HAVE".
