Item Record Standardization

Below please find the "Item record standardization" chart and examples of properly formatted volume field information. These documents were compiled by the item record subgroup of the Serials Management Team (SMT) based on the NISO standard for holdings data. Eventually, these documents will be folded into the overall Serials Holdings Standardization document that covers all aspects of the checkin record in addition to item records-anywhere that serials holdings data are communicated, other than in the bibliographic record, which is prescribed by AACR2 (Anglo American Cataloguing) rules. The overall document includes other information regarding the formatting of holdings data, such as abbreviations for the months of the year, use of spacing, and further instruction for formatting the LIB HAS field of the checkin record. I hope to be able to work with SMT to finalize the overall document this summer. The abbreviations for months to be used are from AACR2:

Jan. Feb. Mar. Apr. May June July Aug. Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec.
