Secured Collection
(909)787-2713

The Secured Collection, located on the fourth floor of the Rivera Library next to Special Collections, provides the security for valuable or vulnerable books by controlling access to them. UCR students, staff and faculty with current UCR I.D. Cards are welcome to browse this Secured Collection and to check items out from it.

Secured Collection Access

Entry to the Secured Collection is controlled by staff at the Secured Collection service desk. No more than five patrons will be allowed into this area at one time. Patrons must show their current UCR I.D. card before being admitted into the Secured Collection.
Secured Collection Security

Backpacks and briefcases must be left outside the Secured Collection in lockers provided. Notebooks, binders and purses may be taken into the Secured Collection. Staff may ask to examine these items before you leave the Secured Collection.
Secured Collection Circulation

Loan periods for Secured Collection materials other than bound journals will depend upon the patron borrower category. Bound journals circulate for three days to UCR faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and staff. All items are checked out from the Secured Collection's service desk and should be returned there. Loans on books can be renewed at the Secured Collection's service desk, providing the item is not needed by another patron. Secured Collection books being held for you can be picked up at the Secured Collection's service desk.
Secured Collection Charges

Borrowers will be billed for the cost of unreturned and lost books. There is a $10.00 non-refundable processing fee for each book returned after the bill has been issued. The Campus Business Services Office will add monthly late charges for bills that are 30 or more days overdue.

Please be certain that the library has your current address on file so that you can receive all notices promptly. A claim of failure to receive an overdue notice will not exempt you from being billed. Change of address forms are located at all library circulation points.

You may also be billed for any damage found to Secured Collection books. Be certain to examine all Secured Collection items you plan to check out for signs of damage and report your findings to a staff member before leaving the Secured Collection with it. This will prevent you from being billed for damage caused by another patron.

The Secured Collection is available for use from 9 am to 8 pm Monday - Thursday, 9 am to 5 pm Friday and 1 pm to 5 pm Saturday and Sunday. If you have any questions about use of the Secured Collection, please contact the Secured Collection service desk at 787-2713.
